What is Buddhism?

Buddhism is a way of cultivating heart-based wisdom through radical acceptance of what is. The core of Zen Buddhism is meditation, a practice that has been maintained and transmitted by Buddhas and ancestors for over 2,500 years. Properly done, meditation is the sitting, standing, walking and lying down of everyday life.

Buddhism teaches compassion in all its forms, and that every being is precious. It's a tradition that urges each of us to do the work needed to transform our own lives and experience every day as perfect and complete - whatever it brings.

Korean Buddhism is the lineage of Still Point. It is earthy, filled with humor, and sincere.

Basic Buddhist Teachings

Four Noble Truths

Life is suffering.
We suffer because we grasp and we crave.
There is a way out of suffering.
That way is the eight fold path.

Meditation on the Six Paramitas:

May I be generous and helpful! (Dana Paramita)

May I be pure and virtuous! (Sila Paramita)

May I be patient! May I be able to bear and forbear the wrongs of others! (Ksanti Paramita)

May I be strenuous, energetic, and persevering! (Virya Paramita)

May I practice meditation and attain concentration and oneness to serve all beings! (Dhyana Paramita)

May I gain wisdom and be able to give the benefit of my wisdom to others! (Prajna Paramita)

The Three Refuges:

I go for refuge to the Buddha and resolve that with all beings I will realize the Great Way and Develop a heart of Enlightenment.

I go for refuge to the Dharma, and resolve that with all beings I will penetrate the teachings and uncover wisdom as vast as the ocean.

I go for refuge to the Sangha, and resolve that with all beings I will seek great peace and harmony so that nothing will impede our progress toward enlightened society.
